MIAMI — Digital-asset platform CoinDistrict on Thursday rolled out its first-ever Black Friday promotion, offering customers 30% off the spot price of CHIRP, a meme token already down 84% year-to-date and which the exchange’s own risk officer flagged in a leaked Slack message as “essentially a souvenir at this point.”
The “Doorbuster Drop,” announced in a 47-second video filmed in front of a green-screened JCPenney, invites users to purchase between $50 and $5,000 of CHIRP at a checkout-applied discount, with CoinDistrict absorbing the spread as a line item internally categorized as “Customer Acquisition – Holiday.” The CMO in the video is wearing a quarter-zip with the company crest stitched slightly crooked over his heart.
A spokesperson reached via the platform’s in-app chat — typing in real time, with one message that began “hi! 👋” before being deleted — declined to confirm whether the discount stacks with CoinDistrict’s existing 12% loyalty rebate, or whether the loyalty rebate exists.
The terms of service, posted as a 14-page PDF with the file name ChirpDoorbusterFINAL_v6_USE_THIS_ONE.pdf, clarify that the 30% discount applies only to new spot purchases and does not extend to CHIRP already held in user wallets, which during the first six hours of the promotional window declined an additional 6.2%.
Tyler Schaffer, 24, who works at a Five Guys in Henderson, Nevada, told CoinDistrict’s Discord that he had “loaded up” with $400 of CHIRP at the discount and was “basically printing.” He posted the same screenshot four hours later with the caption “wait.”
CoinDistrict has indicated additional doorbusters will roll out between now and Cyber Monday, including 25% off a PEPECOIN derivative, a BOGO promotion on a stablecoin that depegged in March, and free shipping on physical commemorative coins for orders over $1,000. A separate landing page advertises a “Family & Friends” early-access window that begins, per the fine print, four hours after the public sale ends.
Competing exchange Voltrade announced its own Black Friday promotion roughly 90 minutes later: a $25 statement credit to any user who could explain, in 200 characters or fewer, what their wrapped-Solana ETF actually held. As of Thursday evening, three users had submitted entries; one was disqualified for using the word “vibes.”
As of the close, CHIRP was trading at $0.0029. With the 30% Black Friday discount applied, the doorbuster price was $0.0041.
